Hello, All! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! We were able to spend time with family, and that is always a good thing. 🙂
For this week’s EEK WEEKS project, I thought I would tone it down and make something natural that could be displayed in your home for the entire season.
I’m sorry I do not have a full photo tutorial, but this was super easy to make, so I’ll just talk you through it. 🙂
You will need three wood plaques, spray paint (I used brown), scrapbook paper, Mod Podge, a craft foam brush, scissors, a moss sheet, ribbon, and a hot glue gun. Optional supplies include distressing ink and jute.
To begin, spray the plaques with spray paint. While the paint is drying, cut out fall shapes from the moss sheet. Have you seen this stuff? I found it at the Dollar Tree, and I only used one sheet for this project!
I found images of a pumpkin, an acorn, and a leaf on Google images, printed them out, cut around the images, and used the cutouts as stencils to cut the moss sheet.
Measure the top of the wooden plaque and cut the scrapbook paper to fit. Distress the edges of the paper with ink, and then Mod Podge the paper to the plaque.
Hot glue the moss to the plaque and embellish with jute (a curly vine for the pumpkin, a rim for the cap of the acorn, and veins for the leaf).
Hot glue ribbon to the back of the plaque and hang it on a nail. I really wanted to hang the plaques from decorative knobs, but wanted to keep my budget in mind, so I hot glued a button to the end of each nail. Personally, I think it is my favorite part of the project! 🙂
Instructions for Making Mossy Fall Art
- Three wood plaques
- Brown spray paint
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge
- Craft foam brush
- Scissors
- Moss sheet
- Ribbon
- Hot glue gun
- Optional: Distressing ink and jute
Prepare the Tulle:
Begin by gathering all your materials. Lay everything out on a clean workspace for easy access.
Create the Volume:
Start by spray painting the wood plaques in brown. Allow them to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Prepare the Poly Satin Circles:
Using Google images, find shapes you like (pumpkin, acorn, leaf). Print them out and cut around the images to create your stencils.
Layer the Components:
Measure and cut the scrapbook paper to fit the top of the wooden plaques. Use distressing ink on the edges before applying Mod Podge to glue it to the plaque.
Additional Personalization:
Cut out fall shapes from the moss sheet using your stencils. Hot glue the moss shapes onto the plaques.
Attach the Clip-On Earring:
If you want to add further embellishments using jute, hot glue it to form details like a rim on the cap of the acorn or veins on the leaf.
Prepare the Shoes:
For hanging, hot glue a ribbon to the back of each plaque. Consider creative options like decorative knobs for added flair.
Make Additional Pairs:
Feel free to create more plaques with different designs or color themes!
Enjoy Your Custom Creation:
Once everything is set up, take a moment to admire your beautiful fall art. Display it prominently in your home for everyone to enjoy!
In conclusion, this project is an enjoyable way to express your creative side while adding a seasonal touch to your home decor. Have fun crafting and showcasing your unique style!
